Ivory@umn.edu (as a Microsoft Word attachment,
preferably .doc) You can easily format to .doc using any
word processing program, simply go to "Save As" or
"Export" and then change the "Format" option to ".doc")
IMPORTANT
For each submission, cite its genre: fiction, non-fiction, poetry or special content.
• Postal submissions should have a cover letter showing Attention: (genre)
• E-mail submission should have Attention: (genre) in the subject line.
All submissions must include contact information:
1. Your name
2. Current street address
3. University of Minnesota e-mail address
For those that are textual, contact information should be at the top left of the text. Otherwise, the contact information should be in a typed document accompanying the submission.
Guidelines Specific to Genre:
Fiction and Non Fiction-
• Any length but no more than 5000 words. All pieces within 5000 words are welcome, but we encourage less lengthy work as print space is a premium
• Limit of three submissions per student.
• E-mailed submissions must be attached to said e-mail as Microsoft Word documents
Poetry-
• Maximum of 50 lines, but as short as you like
• Each student can submit up to 7 poems
• E-mailed submissions must be attached to said e-mail as a Microsoft Word documents
Special Content-
This is an ever-expanding genre and includes, but is not limited to:
Photography, paintings, drawings, interviews, foreign language stories, children's stories, op-ed pieces, social experiments, comics, graphic novels, music, spoken-word, performance art, installation art, flash movies and animated shorts, and full length films. Let your creativity blossom.
• Image Submissions: E-mail a digital copy with a short description of the image and the medium/media used. Also state whether the image is digitally altered.
• Audio Recording Submissions: E-mailed in .mp3 format. There is a limit of three songs per submitter for music and a limit of ten minutes for spoken-word.
• Flash Movies and Animated Shorts: May be up to ten minutes in length and e-mailed in a common format.
• Performance Art and Recordings of Social Experiments: must be relayed on DVD and dropped off in person to the offices of the English Department (207 Lind Hall).
• For Art Installation and Full Length Film Submissions: contact the Special Content editor via e-mail (subject line reading "attention: special content") for more information.
*After you have submitted your creative expression to the Ivory Tower, it will be carefully read and considered. Notification of whether your work will be included in this year's Ivory Tower will occur by the last week in February.
